Mariana Mazzucato, author of the book “Mission Economy” and founding director of the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose, defines missions as “Concrete, time-bound targets within societal / environmental and economic challenges that act as frames and stimuli for innovation.” This session looks at one approach to increase the effectiveness of such stimuli, by adopting place-based ecosystem thinking to mission design and implementation. Participants will 1. Be introduced to the concept of missions, including an overview of the most up to date research and publications about the topic 2. Learn about place-based innovation ecosystems 3. Engage in a practical workshop of ecosystem mapping using the framework developed 4. If applicable, get access to the report that we might able to launch at CCW (missionecosystems.com) 5. The presentation of a tool that can help map local ecosystems.
