Looking forward to narrowing the justice gap

Legitimacy and affordability are major challenges confronting the formal justice system in Liberia. When citizens are aggrieved and then confronted with legal challenges, such as extensive bureaucratic red-tape and unseen additional costs including transportation, legal fees, and the opportunity costs of foregone work, they are often deprived of justice. Liberia’s current justice system remains both physically and financially inaccessible to many. In response to growing public demand for free and fair redress, the Citizens Bureau collaborated with interested community leaders and created Community Justice Teams in partnership with civil society organisations. The Community Justice Teams project supports citizens in 4 densely populated communities in 3 counties.
