A gastronomia social utiliza o poder dos alimentos como ferramenta de mudança social, abrangendo todos os níveis do ciclo alimentar, desde o plantio e colheita até a redução do desperdício de alimentos. Por meio da gastronomia social, os alimentos são usados ??para fortalecer comunidades e melhorar a vida das pessoas ao redor do mundo: construindo coesão social, abordando desigualdades socioeconômicas, priorizando a saúde, o bem-estar e promovendo a resiliência de ecossistemas. Este webinar irá destacar como a gastronomia social acontece em comunidades locais.Por meio de um painel com membros do Movimento de Gastronomia Social que compartilharão inovações, desafios e aprendizado de suas organizações. O painel destacará ações em direção as ODS 2 Fome Zero, ODS 12 ‘Consumo e Produção Responsável’ e ODS 17 ‘Parcerias para os Objetivos’. Esta sessão ainda terá pequenos grupos de discusão e um painel com representantes de organizações de Gastronomia Social do Brasil, moderado por Mike Oliveira (Líder de acões para a comunidade, SGM).

The Invisible Visible – Campaign for Rights & Justice

The session will begin with providing the context surrounding the situation of homelessness in India and what has been the response from the state to address this. It will also discuss the vulnerabilities of different communities including the abuse and violence they are subjected to. Finally, it will propose a collaborative response in the form a national campaign, with a clear call to action. Strengthening of existing alliance that Koshish initiated some time back will be a major take away from this session with collaborative organisations extending support for advocacy and awareness of the issue.

Sri Lanka Bee Honey – From a forest full of a medicine

Walking into a Sri Lankan forest is like walking into a medicine cabinet. so said a farmer. And this is true because 1. There is immense bio diversity in such a small space 2. So much of our plant life has medicinal benefits, which supported the indigenous ‘Hela Vedakama’ (medicine) of Sri Lanka. Therefore there is a possibility that Sri Lankan bee honey has great potential to become the next big high value export. But, to date the industry is at a very basic level; there is no formal support, no R & D, very few scientific studies, very few regulations. This is what Goodfolks is trying to change by 1. Conducting research into the quality of Sri Lankan Bee Honey and then finding a positioning in the international market 2. Developing a supply chain that brings employment opportunities to homes, communities and women’s groups (ex: plantation sector women could earn an extra income) 3. Because this is a product anyone can get behind, it has tremendous potential to drive environmental causes. In this session we will be outlining the bee honey story in Sri Lanka. What changes we are making, where we are going, and how you (funders/policy-makers etc) can support us to accelerate this process.

A través de la gastronomía social, los alimentos se utilizan para fortalecer las comunidades y mejorar la vida de las personas en todo el mundo: generar cohesión social, abordar las desigualdades socioeconómicas, priorizar la salud y el bienestar y fomentar la resiliencia de los ecosistemas locales. Este seminario web destacará cómo la gastronomía social aparece en las comunidades locales.

Engaging private sector towards addressing malnutrition

Increasingly, the dialogue on the multi-dimensional issues around malnutrition have started recognizing the need for cross-sectoral approaches- including the role of the private sector. There has been an increase in the involvement of the private sector in improving nutrition outcomes overall, however, myriad challenges remain around public-private partnerships. This session aims to provide an opportunity to discuss the role of private sector in collaborating with public sector to address malnutrition and achieving nutritional equity. Particularly, the goal of the session is to address the following: 1. What role can the private sector play in addressing malnutrition? 2. What are some of the programmes currently being funded through Corporate Social Responsibility in the nutrition space? 3. What are the gaps that remain unaddressed and what role can the private sector play in addressing them? 4. How can the private sector be engaged towards achieving nutritional equity? (e.g., measuring impact of public private engagement, scaling successful nutrition initiatives, advocacy) 5. What the private sector can do to complement government programs (how can private sector provide additional resources, do some gap funding, and optimize efficiencies) and de-burden the overburdened government health systems, especially in the nutrition space.

Permaculture/ Eco-Friendly Agriculture: The Case of Nepal

https://permaculturenepal.com/ Almost Heaven Farms is a permaculture demonstration, training, research and resource center based out of Ilam, Nepal in the eastern hillside of the Himalayas. AHF supports farming communities transition to Regenerative Agriculture, restoring local soils, water sources and ecologies. Much more than only organic farming and beyond sustainability, we work with farmers to adapt to climate change and join the global effort to repair the damage done to the earth. Zachary is a permaculture designer, activist and teacher who has been living in Nepal since 2003. In 2005, he founded the Kamala Foundation, an organistion committed to bringing the principles of permaculture to life and providing community-based programming to cultivate resilience and revitalize traditional and ecological ways of being. He established Almost Heaven Farm in 2013, where he researches, demonstrates and trains local farmers and international visitors in permaculture design, earth-based building and ecological restoration. Specializing in program design and implementation, Zachary has worked in communities across Nepal and was instrumental in co-founding the Resilience Through Recovery Project, which employed permaculture techniques to help villages recover from the devastating earthquakes of 2015. Zachary’s vision is informed by the notion that to empower the powerless one must work to ‘create a million villages to replace nation states’ (Bill Mollison). He is currently working to develop a network of communities committed to regenerative development across the Himalayan bioregion.

Food Security as a byproduct of environmental stewardship

The medium-term development goal of the project is to enhance the ability of communities to increase and sustain agricultural production for improved household food security, nutrition and income generation while at the same time safeguarding the environment by adopting sustainable agroforestry, environmental, climate and agricultural practices and appropriate technologies in order to avert climate change and contribute to the improvement of education, food in/security, eradication of poverty. The aim is to foster a lasting high quality of life for the local people in Teso while safeguarding long-term environmental sustainability by growing fruits (including fruit and multi-purpose trees) and promoting agroforestry systems by growing trees and fruit.

The Role of Youth in Fighting Food Insecurity
