From a perceived lack of trust to a sector which represents transparency, trustworthiness, effectiveness, innovation and meaningful change, irrespective of ideological differences. 2. From a sector which works with underpaid and undervalued part timers, volunteers and daily wagers to one which provides a career path and opportunity for full-time, inclusive, satisfying, diverse and financially viable careers with professional training and growth opportunities and satisfaction. 3. From being a sector for dole-outs to being recognized as valuable contributors to ‘growth’ and ‘development’.

Not business as usual: how to build business models that blend profit & purpose

The session will cover an overview of the eight steps in the For-Purpose business model workbook and how to implement them. The workbook was developed in collaboration with Bayes Business School in the UK, from research with 10 for-purpose intermediaries in the UK representing over 10,000 for-purpose businesses, and draws on over 90 international journal articles. Participants will learn how to design their impact model, select customers, build products/services and importantly, how to ensure that collaboration with other players in the ecosystem is baked into their model.

Empathy Project

Responsible Ecosystem” is a term used by SociopreneurID to describe a future society where everyone will take a role to improve their surroundings. People in this society will be responsible not only to themselves but also to other people and, the Planet. However, the responsible Ecosystem is only possible by creating ‘Empathy’ first. “Empathy will change one’s perception to tackle various problems around them, it encourages them to involve and be a part of the solution. We believe if they practice it regularly, they will create positive impacts on other people and the Planet. Thus, if a pool of like-minded people shares the same thought and take actions collectively, they will change the world.” This is Raison d’Etre of the Empathy Project. Empathy Project developed as a series of programs to invite everyone to work collaboratively to solve a specific issue. Thus, this session will provide knowledge about what is Empathy Project? How does it work? Who works on it? and who are the actors? But the most important is to share our thoughts about Empathy and its importance from different perspectives. About Empathy Project Since its first launch in 2018, Empathy Project has been delivered in 4 different regions in Indonesia. More than 3,670 learners have participated in the program ranging from children to adults, over 400 people have involved as facilitators and/or volunteers, and more than 670 stakeholders (academics, business, government, and society) have taken respective roles to achieve the shared goal. When the pandemic Covid-19 hit Indonesia in March 2020, SociopreneurID created the Virtual Empathy Project by bringing together professionals who have more than 8 years of expertise and youths to virtually work together and produce online learning materials for children whose learning process is affected by the pandemic. 4 batches of Virtual Empathy Projects have been delivered with 300+ experts and youth volunteers who have invested over 15,000 volunteering hours to produce 50+ educational contents that can be accessed for free. In March 2022, SociopreneurID delivered a hybrid model of Empathy Project in collaboration with government of Solok City, West Sumatera, focusing on four sectors: education, MSMEs, tourism, and youth development. More than 1,270 learners engaged in online and offline educational activities, over 150 facilitators and/or volunteers and more than 60 stakeholders involved.

Building on the momentum and success of the Social Enterprise, Complexity and Systems Change Day held in March, we are pleased to announce that we are holding another one-day event on May 9th: the first day of Catalyst 2030’s Catalysing Change Week. The theme of this year’s Catalysing Change Week is “Let’s Re-Energise the SDGs”. The focus of the May 9th Systems Change Day event is the ‘Indigenous systems thinking, SDGs interconnectedness & funding systems change’. It will bring together social enterprise practitioners, funders and researchers to discuss the indigenous knowledge systems, engaging with systems change, the interconnectedness of the SDGs, and funding systems change. This event is being sponsored and hosted by the University of South Australia, with Sanjaya Kuruppu, Director of the UniSA Yunus Social Business Centre as our MC. The event will have hybrid components: keynote (in person & online) panel sessions (in person & online) and participatory workshop (in person only).

Building Back Better means Circular

The Building Back Better Means Circular aims to promote the understanding of the circular economy as a means for social businesses to have a sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and acceleration towards the path to attaining SDGs. During the session we will share knowledge about the circular economy and social business principles, and the role they play in the Build Back Better (BBB) program recently launched by the Yunus Environment Hub to support 25 Social Businesses in Kenya. We will be joined by 2 Female Founders from the BBB who will share the social problems they are tackling through their businesses, and real examples of how they harness the circular economy to drive impact. By the end of the session, we hope participants have gained a better understanding of how businesses can transition to more economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable growth. We will invite the audience to collaborate with BBB as experts, investors and potential program participants for future cohorts.
