What do we learn when we integrate the perspectives of trauma and systems change? Though the origins may vary widely, trauma is a universal part of the human experience. If systems are made up of people and if people experience trauma, then by extension the systems they are a part of carry trauma as well. This session will explore how trauma shows up as a force to be reckoned with in the systems we are working to shift towards equity and justice and examine collective healing practices to consider in your work. * How can a common language and safe spaces for conversations on trauma and healing add a missing lens to the mainstream discourse about social and environmental problem solving? * Why does healing relationships hold the key to integrating trauma and changing systems? * What do we gain by bringing a trauma-informed lens from the periphery to the mainstream?

PARENT’s Background PARENT stands to build Positive Affective Resolutions for Effective Nurturing Trust. The PARENT Module focuses on the bi-directional Cognitive-Behaviour strategies in Parent-Child interaction and communication. This module addresses parental behaviour focusing on reducing parental stress and behaviours driven by emotions of fear and anxiety, and increasing parental satisfaction. PARENT is a community-based program that targets immigrants/ new-comers and refugees to be more individual-and-family-mental health-informed focusing on actual psychological growth in post-immigration while meeting expectations of cross-cultural family dynamics and family relationships. PARENT Module’s Objectives ü Improving mental health: Support community members who are vulnerable to develop mental health problems to stay well. Empowering choice: Empower people who experience a mental health problem to make informed choices about how they live and recover. ü Improving services and support: Ensure that community members have access to the right services and support at the right time to aid their recovery and enable them to live with their mental health problems. ü Enabling social participation: Create a safe space for community members with experience of mental health problems to participate fully in their society. Our intervention creates change makers by recruiting and training adults from local communities to provide inclusive and equitable quality of psycho-social education for low-income families along with promoting long-term effective learning opportunities for all. ü Achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in cross-cultural agglomerations by emphasizing roles and responsibilities of family members, promoting paternal involvement.

Neste bate papo, o Instituto Sabin e a Phomenta (um instituto empresarial e um negócio de impacto) compartilharão a trajetória de evolução e de impacto do Programa Saúde+ que fortalece organizações da sociedade civil de 12 estados (+ DF) no Brasil, além de olhar para a saúde de seus beneficiários. Ao final do evento, o participante compreenderá: o histórico, a evolução e as características de um programa que apoia organizações e beneficiários, simultâneamente; como funciona o processo seleção e de desenvolvimento organizacional de OSC’s no Brasil como se desenvolveu um programa de desenvolvimento organizacional de OSC’s e que busca se tornar uma plataforma de atuação sistêmica para OSC’s.

Let’s Talk Disability: Raising voices from the ground

Topics explored: understanding disability through the social model lens; listening to voices from communities; how people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities from rural and underserviced areas are bringing quality data, and advocacy to the national and global conversation while breaking down barriers in their own community. Main takeaways for participants: 1) Exposure to the “Let’s Talk Disability” methodology: to raise awareness and stimulate conversation about the social model of disability, inclusion, and the rights of people with disabilities. Explore preconceived ideas about disability, and become able to recognise elements in our own behaviour that hinder inclusion. 2) Learn about the Parent Network approach and the ShonaquipSE Human Rights Monitoring Tools that are enabling people with disabilities and parents to participate in policy discussions in a new way. 3) Engage with materials and facilitators to give input to these systems change methodologies and discuss ways to network and intensify the collective effort towards inclusion by 2030.

The Invisible Visible – Campaign for Rights & Justice

The session will begin with providing the context surrounding the situation of homelessness in India and what has been the response from the state to address this. It will also discuss the vulnerabilities of different communities including the abuse and violence they are subjected to. Finally, it will propose a collaborative response in the form a national campaign, with a clear call to action. Strengthening of existing alliance that Koshish initiated some time back will be a major take away from this session with collaborative organisations extending support for advocacy and awareness of the issue.

Caring for Carers – an integrated approach to the inclusion of family carers

Unpaid family carers represent the largest source of care provision worldwide. Caregiving places a heavy burden on carers, impacting adversely on their health (physical and mental), finances and social inclusion. In low and middle income countries, carer burden is further exacerbated by poverty and gender inequality, plus a lack of state welfare systems. As we strive to achieve the SDGs, it is clear that without adequate consideration of the needs of family carers, we will not achieve sustainable change. In the session I will present the five-element Carers Worldwide model to holistically address the needs of carers and achieve long term change at individual, community and policy level. Participants will gain insights and practical advice on how to start the conversation about carer inclusion in their own spheres of influence.
